About Smitten

Smitten was developed by a Mum of three children in response to the need to find products for her family which were not harmful to their skin. All three of her children including her newborn suffered eczema and dermatitis and the commercial products which she used were aggravating these conditions. She wanted to use natural products but did not know which to choose as she found it difficult to discern which products were safe and natural from the myriad of skincare products available. As a vegetarian of 20 years she also wanted a range of products which was cruelty free and not tested on animals.

She decided her first step was being able to read and understand the ingredient labeling on products and then being able to identify which ingredients were safe and which would be harmful. It was this initial research which inspired her to develop her own range of skin and baby care products which resulted in Smitten. When designing her range she wanted the packaging to be of the highest quality and reflect the glamour of the 1950s era which is how the Smitten logo and silver vintage look packaging came about.

She is a qualified beauty therapist as well as having her bachelor of education. She has completed additional qualifications/ courses in Cosmetic Chemistry, Advanced Skin Analysis, and Aromatherapy Massage – Guild UK.

Smitten Philosophy

Many skin and body care preparations contain highly toxic and irritating ingredients from which people endure allergic reactions and other skin sensitivities. Our skin care products are free from mineral oils which block and clog pores and are detrimental to the skin. Nor do we use harmful chemicals which can irritate the skin, stripping it of its natural protection and upsetting the PH balance. We do not use propylene glycol and all our products are sls and paraben free and our products are not tested on animals. We are advocates of and fully accredited with Choose Cruelty Free and believe that no animal should suffer for the price of beauty.

Smitten uses highly beneficial natural and certified organic ingredients. We incorporate natural and certified organic botanical derived oils for their ability to penetrate down and into the skin. Each combination of oils have been selected and formulated to rebalance skin type and meet skin needs. Botanical derived oils are well known for their ability to treat skin conditions, nurture, nourish and protect the skin. Our products are rich in vital Vitamins A, D and E as well as Omega 3 and 6 which are vital for effective skin functioning and tissue regeneration. Our products are not just for the surface of the skin but also to stimulate the skin to function better.

Our Smitten products also contain powerful Certified Organic Antioxidants including white tea, pomegranate, ginseng and Vitamin E. These protect the skin from the drying effects of the sun, the damaging effects of free radicals and environmental stresses. Research has proven that regular use of antioxidants reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles and helps reduce premature ageing.

Smitten also incorporates the use of essential oils in its products. Unlike commercial beauty preparations essential oils are entirely natural and completely compatible with the body’s own oils and fats. The effect of essential oils on the skin is profound. Essential oils are ideal for skin care since they heal, vitalize the tissues, stimulate the renewal of the cells, cleanse and rejuvenate the skin.

At Smitten we strive to educate and inform all on the importance of using natural and certified organic ingredients and how to avoid harmful chemicals at all costs. We aim to help people make the shift away from toxic dangerous beauty to natural beauty. Our products work effectively and continually. Your skin may well need some time to adjust to the new natural substances but its condition will improve.

Smitten embraces the use of natural ingredients but also believes that natural beauty can still be fun and does not need to be dull and boring.
